Water Mourns the Loss of Mr. Dewey Bond
Mr. Bond
served for more than five years as the Dranesville District
representative on the Fairfax Water Board of Directors. During his
tenure he served as Chair of the Water Quality Committee and as a
member of the Finance and Infrastructure Committees. Prior to
joining Fairfax Water, Mr. Bond was an elected director of the
Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District for 15 years,
serving as Chairman for 14 of those years. He also was appointed by
the governor to the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board where
he served for 8 years.
Mr. Bond was an officer in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946.
Upon graduating from Michigan State University as an agricultural
economist, Mr. Bond embarked on a career with the American Meat
Institute in Chicago and Washington, DC. Upon retiring as senior
vice president in 1993, he dedicated much of his time and energy to
the community. Among other groups, he served on the Fairfax County
Environmental Quality Advisory Council, the Fairfax County Tree
Commission, the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation
Districts Board, the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board, the
Virginia Board of Professional Soil Scientists, the Fairfax County
Extension Leadership Council, the Great Falls Citizens Association,
the Great Falls Methodist Church, the Fairfax County Republican
Committee, and the Langley High School PTA.
Mr. Bond’s leadership and devotion to the community are a testament
to his outstanding character. He will be greatly missed by his
friends, his colleagues, and the citizens he so passionately served.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
