FAIRFAX WATER WATER SUPPLY STAKEHOLDER OUTREACH PROGRAM

Summary of Fiscal Year 2009 Grant Awards

 

Fairfax Water offers congratulations to the following organizations that were awarded grants in 2009:

  

  • The Friends of Lakewood received a grant to implement a stream stabilization project to prevent erosion and reduce sediment and nutrient pollutants to the Occoquan Reservoir.

 

  • The Friends of the Occoquan were awarded a grant to support volunteer clean-up activities on the Occoquan Reservoir, including installing bi-lingual watershed educational signs and provide educational materials to 10 area schools.

 

  • The Friends of Reston for Community Projects grant will purchase monitoring equipment and support volunteer stream water quality monitoring in the Snakeden Branch, Glade and Colvin Run watersheds in Reston.           

 

  • Lake Ridge Park received a grant to support a watershed education program for third- and fifth-grade students living near the Occoquan Reservoir. 

 

  • The Mason Neck Lions Club will use their grant to mark storm drains for educational purposes with the help of Eagle Scout candidates and other volunteers. 

 

  • The Piedmont Environmental Council was awarded a grant to conduct an educational workshop on how better site design can improve the quality of the Potomac River basin. 

 

  • The Prince William County Department of Public Works grant will fund a seminar for residents along the Occoquan Reservoir focused on helping them become better stewards of their buffering lands. 

 

  • The Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District received a grant to construct and implement agricultural best management practices in the Occoquan watershed.
